Welcome! My name is Su and I am a tutor and Academic Language Therapist, trained in the Orton-Gillingham approach from an Orton-Gillingham Academy (OGA) accredited school. I offer individualized tutoring to improve literacy skills, both in-person and online all over the world, from my home in Nova Scotia, Canada.
The Orton Gillingham approach has been shown to be an effective way to teach students with dyslexia or specific language-based disorders. Based on the science of reading, it is a structured, multisensory form of teaching. Incorporating kinesthetic and tactile learning pathways is especially helpful for neurodivergent learners–and, I believe, for everyone! In OG, the tutor or teacher pays close attention to responses of the student. Because of my training, I am able to quickly ascertain where a student needs help. Each lesson is planned based on the individual needs of the specific student, which means it’s a great complement to classroom learning.
I created this website to offer some free resources for parents, to explain why you may want to hire me as a tutor, and to explain more about how I teach. Enjoy!
