Resources for Parents

Here are some free resources I’ve compiled that hopefully will support you in finding what you need to improve your child’s literacy.

International Dyslexia Association This site is a treasure trove for all kinds of resources, whether you are unsure if someone you know has dyslexia, or are looking for specific supports.

Parent Resource Hub: UFLI The University of Florida Literacy Institute (pronounced U-Fly) is one of the leading hubs of structured literacy research, and has a lot of wonderful resources. This is the link for parents specifically, but you may want to check their other links as well.

Reading Rockets: Resource Page Reading Rockets is a great resource for both parents and educators. It also has a page about looking for signs of reading difficulties.

Free Decodable E-books From FlyLeaf Publishing. Orton-Gillingham instruction involves working from the smallest units to the largest, meaning that we only include reading words that have phonemes which the student already knows (for example, if a student doesn’t know ‘kn’ can be pronounced /n/, we wouldn’t include knot, know or knife in a story). It takes extra work to find decodables, so here is one free resource!
